WELLHEAD AND PIPELINE RISER STRIKES BY FARM EQUIPMENT

The safety of the farming community is of the utmost importance to Ember Resources Inc. We deem
wellhead and pipeline strikes, by farming equipment, to be a significant hazard to landowners,
contractors, and the general public. Over the last five years, Ember has had 82 direct hits by farming
equipment on wellheads and pipeline risers, with repair costs totaling more than $300,000.00. These hits
have caused natural gas leaks that potentially could have resulted in fires, explosions and serious injuries.
It is imperative that the agricultural community be aware of the associated dangers when working in close
proximity to Ember’s natural gas facilities, wellheads and pipelines.

Ember endeavors to minimize its operating footprint by utilizing minimum disturbance wellsites wherever
possible, making it suitable for the unused lands surrounding our infrastructure to be incorporated into
the adjacent farmland. The resulting agricultural activity on our leases and in close proximity to our well
heads and pipeline risers benefits both the agricultural community and Ember, however this requires
operators of agricultural equipment to be aware of Ember’s facilities and take great care when operating
around these facilities.

Should an incident occur where Ember’s facilities, fencing, wellheads and pipelines are affected you
should:

  • Immediately turn the vehicles ignition off and evacuate to a safe location;
  • Contact Ember’s 24hr Emergency number 1-888-362-7370 and report the incident;
  • Wait for Ember Personnel to arrive. Ember area staff will be immediately notified of the
    emergency and will attend the site as quickly as possible;
  • Do not attempt to move equipment or retrieve belongings until Ember personnel have shut in the
    facility and have deemed the area safe to enter.

These incidents frequently result in significant damage to Ember’s facilities as well as loss of production
revenue caused by downtime for inspection and repairs. Due to the continued rising amount of well head
strikes and damage to our infrastructure, Ember would like to remind our farming community that the
cost of damaging well heads and/or pipeline infrastructure will be passed onto the landowner or land
renter who caused the damage. In the past, the cost to repair a single well head/riser strike has been as
high as $100,000.00!

CALL BEFORE YOU DIG
Ember would also like to remind our stakeholders, that if you are planning a project that requires
excavation, there may be underground utility infrastructure including high pressure pipelines
underground. Failure to place a Utility Safety call may result in damage to underground infrastructure,
environmental damage and personal injury or death. The cost of hitting underground utility infrastructure
or pipelines can be very significant to the landowner or person conducting the work. To protect yourself
from unnecessary liability, please call 1-800-242-3447 or go to www.utilitysafety.ca.

Ember wishes to continue to operate cooperatively with the agricultural community and does not wish to
isolate our leased lands from the remainder of your fields or pastures however Ember may need to
consider alternative measures to protect our investment and the lives of our neighbors in the
communities we are in. Ember recognizes that a majority of our stakeholders are dedicated to protecting
both their investments and ours and have not encountered any of our facilities and we commend them
on this.

Equipment can be repaired, but a life is lost forever…
