Production Accounting Team Lead

Ember Resources Inc. is seeking to fill a Team Lead, Production Accounting position within the accounting department. The position is based out of Ember’s Calgary office and reports to the Production Accounting Manager.

This role is a hands-on working Team Lead position that spans all facets of production, revenue and royalty accounting.  It would include assisting with leading and developing an experienced team of production accountants and advancing relationships across all aspects of the business and departments. The ideal candidate will have a complete understanding and appreciation of full cycle production and revenue accounting, excellent communication skills, a good mix of strong technical skills and proven leadership competency.

Ember is a well-funded private entity operating coal-bed methane (“CBM”) focused natural gas E&P business based in Calgary, Alberta. With interest in 2 million net acres of land and natural gas production of 240 mmcf/d, we are the leading producer of coal-bed methane in Canada.

The successful applicant must meet the following:

  • Minimum 10+ years experience in Production Revenue Accounting.
  • CAPPA certification is required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple monthly deadlines and manage time efficiently.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Metrix production accounting system, Optix, Prodview, CS Land and Petrinex.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and Vlookups, with a proven track record of using these skills to enhance business processes and efficiencies.
  • Working knowledge of Qbyte FM, Energylink, Petrotranz, Power BI and Microsoft office would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated history of leveraging analytical skills to develop reports and analysis using a variety of tools for different purposes and stakeholders.
  • Extensive knowledge of Directive 17 and AER production reporting guidelines is required.
  • Clear understanding of Freehold and Gross overriding royalties, facility charges and contracts pertaining to production accounting.
  • Strong understanding of gas and liquids gas plant allocations.
  • Easily adaptable to a changing environment with the implementation of systems and process efficiencies.
  • Self starter with strong analytical skills, positive attitude and ability to work well with others
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Approachable team player who enjoys learning and contributing to the establishment and attainment of team and corporate goals.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Full cycle Production Accounting for a set of assigned properties and holiday coverage for Manager or team members as needed.
  • Working with the Production Accounting Manager, help mentor and lead a group of experienced production accountants.
  • Review master file data setup in the Production Accounting system.
  • Working with the other various stakeholders within the Company, is accountable for the accurate and timely production and revenue reporting for operated and non-operated properties, processing and compiling of production data, splits, and communication to various internal and external parties as required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of field operations, ability to liaise with the field, attend onsite meetings as required, and the ability to interpret and understand measurement schematics.
  • Assist with co-ordination of joint activities with land department, engineering and field operations including:
    • Corporate reporting initiatives
    • Regulatory reporting
    • Measurement guidelines
    • Master file changes
  • Partake in the annual EPAP process (Enhance Production Accounting Procedures) for regulatory compliance and continual improvement.
  • Ability to take a leadership role and participate in multi-disciplinary project teams working to improve FDC, field and plant measurement, data mapping and overall business intelligence development.
  • Ability to think strategically and big picture for corporate initiatives while working within industry reporting guidelines and requirements.
  • Property analysis ensuring accurate production and revenue monthly reporting.
  • Ability to participate in meetings and work with government bodies as Company representative on production accounting initiatives for reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with, co-ordinate and partake in any field visits, regulatory audits or queries.
