Manager, Financial Reporting

Ember is seeking to fill a Manager, Financial Reporting position within the accounting department. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Manager, Financial Reporting will oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements of the Company in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This role leads the year-end and quarter-end close processes, prepares monthly internal and external reports submitted to the Company’s shareholder and senior management, and liaison with the external auditors. Lastly, this individual will prepare the quarterly tax provisions and assist with the annual income tax compliance of the Company.

The successful applicant must meet the following:

  • CPA designation is required
  • 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in upstream oil & gas with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Experience implementing automation tools and streamlining reporting processes
  • Proficient in financial and reporting systems including Qbyte and Power BI
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical data to non-financial stakeholders
  • Ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead the financial reporting function ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with IFRS and other regulatory standards
  • Lead the preparation and review of the consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements of the Company in accordance with IFRS
  • Lead the preparation and review of the internal and external reports of the Company, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the Company’s shareholder and senior management
  • Research and implement new and amending IFRS accounting standards
  • Prepare and update accounting memos as required
  • Maintain and update the Company’s decommissioning liabilities and asset impairment models
  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports and information to external parties including Statistics Canada, other regulatory bodies
  • Prepare the quarterly tax provisions and assist with the annual tax filings of the Company
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the Company’s external auditor
  • Contribute to the automation and efficiencies of accounting workflows, reporting systems, and data management
  • Collaborate with other accounting leaders and senior leadership to deliver timely, actionable financial insights
  • Maintain adherence to the Company’s internal control policies and standards
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members to foster a high-performance, accountability-focused culture
  • Lead and participate (where appropriate) in project-based work and complete ad-hoc requests as required.
